How to Enjoy Winters on Cape Cod

image of winters at the cape

Cape Cod is known for many things – white sandy beaches, ocean vistas, and rolling sand dunes – making it a well-liked destination during the summer. While it may not be the most popular season to visit, winters on Cape Cod might make you think twice on where to go for your next winter vacation.

Read here for some of our favorite ways to enjoy winters on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Museum hopping

If the day just doesn’t permit any sort of outdoor activity, then spend the day visiting the Cape’s many museums and centers for learning. For a smaller community, Cape Cod boasts over 15 museums that offer a glimpse into the past of this seaside community. View here to see a full list of Cape Code museums.

Cape Cod Beer Tour

One of the best ways to warm up during the winters at the Cape is to sip on a cold one at the Cape Cod Beer. This local brewery found in Hyannis is a small-batch production that produces beers with gigantic flavor. From their Breakfast Blonde to their Vanilla Bean Porter and everything in between, there is bound to be a brew to your liking. Join their free daily (except Sundays) tour to go behind the scenes and for an additional $5 will get you a tasting of five different beers.

Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory Tour

Compliment your beer tasting tour with a tour of the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory. Watch and see how these delicious chips are made and discover why they are one of the top-selling brands in the United States. Originally started in a small shop in Hyannis, this 30+-year-old company has since expanded its operation, which can now be viewed by the public. Self-guided tours of the facility are available 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Antiquing

Cape Cod offers an expansive network of antique shops scattered throughout the community. From Sandwich to Dennis to Brewster, there are 26 miles of various antique stores and gift shops for everyone to uncover a buried treasure. This favorite pastime is a great way to spend winters at the Cape.  Discover local relics in the oldest town on the Cape (Sandwich) at The Sandwich Antiques Center or hop on over to the large Antiques Center of Yarmouth. For a full list of antique shops, visit here.

Photograph the winter landscape

Almost any time of year is a great opportunity to capture the beauty of Cape Cod but during the winter the Cape can offer unique details that make any photo pop. Where snow blankets the beaches and the water becomes seemingly vast glacier and lighthouses glisten amongst the winter wonderland that surrounds them. So, grab your camera and your coat and discover the beauty that can only be found during winters at the cape.

Discover nature
